The lightweight and stiff carbon-reinforced midsole ensures optimal power transfer, whilst the low stack height stabilises your foot. The wrap-around upper minimises seam overlap, ensuring a perfect, moulded fit around your foot.
Shimano Dynalast 2.0
This sole technology reduces fatigue during long, high-intensity workouts, as the sole customises itself to the natural movement of your foot whilst pedalling.
Why is reducing fatigue important in gravel racing?
Gravel races often last much longer than the average road ride, with varied terrain that frequently requires you to get out of the saddle or even walk for a stretch. A sole that isn’t designed for that repeated, prolonged strain can cause pressure points and fatigue to build up in your forefoot as the hours go by. Dynalast 2.0 is Shimano’s answer to this: the sole construction distributes pressure more evenly over a longer period, so that towards the end of a long ride you can still pedal with vigour rather than compromising on efficiency.
Pontoon cleat system
This system has been specially developed for SPD pedals and provides a larger, more stable contact area between your shoe and the pedal, ensuring fast and powerful pedalling performance.
What makes this system compatible with gravel riding, rather than a standard MTB shoe?
On rough or muddy terrain, the connection between the shoe and the pedal is less consistent than on the road. The Pontoon system is designed to make that connection more stable, even when you need to clip in and out quickly during technical sections. This is compatible with SPD pedals such as the Shimano PD-M8100, which also makes this shoe compatible with a mountain bike fitted with the same pedal system.
BOA Fit System with dual L6 dial closures
Two compact dial closures allow you to adjust the fit of the forefoot and instep independently of one another, for a precise fit.
Durable TPU outsole
This outsole is designed for both cycling and walking on gravel: stable on loose terrain, and durable enough for the sections where you need to get off your bike.
- SPD pedals, such as the Shimano PD-M8100
- Gravel races and intense, long gravel rides where you also walk from time to time
- 3-point (SPD-SL) racing pedals: this shoe has an SPD (2-point) attachment
- Attach your SPD cleats to the sole, compatible with the Pontoon cleat system
- Adjust the two BOA L6 dial closures separately for the forefoot and the instep until the shoe is evenly fastened
- If you are unsure about the fitting or the correct cleat position, have this done by the service centre
- Clean mud and sand from the BOA fastenings regularly to ensure the turning mechanism continues to operate smoothly
- After a wet or muddy ride, leave the shoes to air-dry; never place them near a heater or in the tumble dryer
